The puppies are in the Socialization Period between weeks five to seven. The more things the puppies can be introduced to during this period the better socialized the puppy will be and the less fearful of day-to-day encounters! That is why we're starting field trips and the pups are seeing playing with all kinds of toys, play on on all kinds of surfaces, go up and down stairs, etc.
Under socialized dogs are shy and fearful, I work very hard to make sure our puppies are well socialized - before they go home. This critical socialization process goes on for months after our adoptive families take their puppies’ home (socializing a Vizsla is a lifetime commitment).
As part of responsible pet ownership, our new owners to continue this process (and not just keep their new puppy at home) with puppy classes right away, list of items to socialize puppy to/with. It is VERY important that new puppy owners continue the socialization process to assure a well socialized dog when they mature. But very often in Vizslas, socialization is a lifelong commitment.
