Teeter Totter and Housebreaking 101

Here are a few photos of the pups shortly before bedtime.  In the evening and morning hours they've been spending time outside on the patio in a penned in grassy area - then they go back into the pen for daytime/nighttime.

The pups are loving my homemade teeter totter which is noisy and provides the opportunity to walk on uneven surfaces (and new textures with the black grip tape).  They also love the big cardboard tube and anything else they can get their "mouths" on.

Some notes on housebreaking:

They are taking to the pressed wood pellets, especially for #2's (you can see the pellets the white tray, top photo).  The pellets are VERY helpful for housebreaking and also to keep the pen clean (puppies do not want to soil their bedding).  The pen is mopped with a bleach solution 2x's a day (or as needed) because the cleaner the pen is kept, the more reinforcing it is for them to go in one area, i.e the pellets.  They tend to soak the pee pads overnight (maybe they're too lazy to walk to the pellets?).  Although I am still using them in their pen, soon they will start shredding them and making a big mess as part of their "playtime".

Pee pads (or pellets) aren't appropriate for a 8-9 weeks old puppy. At that age they'll need consistent house-breaking lessons, and crating is going to be the best way to achieve that goal.
