The pups ripped up the linoleum (it's over rubber exercise mats in my bonus room off the garage). This is typical Vizsla puppy behavior when bored and the reason why I encourage crate training vs. puppy playpen the moment the pup goes home. You can see what 6 1/2 week old puppies are capable of, imagine what a 9-10 week old puppy can do . . . or even a SIX MONTH OLD.
The other problem is they can eat something dangerous, causing injury or even a bowel obstruction (surgery is $4,000, give or take). Chewing up items they are not supposed to is a bad habit (and hard to break) but can be prevented if you set them up to succeed (not fail).
As for me - I realized now I need to weight down the (new) linoleum and ensure the gate is secure (cannot be pushed). Puppies still need to potty frequently at this age and they cannot be crated for long periods (they still need to play/socialize). FYI - a good guideline is that a puppy can be crated one hour for every month of age (8 weeks old = 2 hours crated).
